schizoaffective disorder

SKIT·soh·uh·FEK·tiv dis·OR·der

A mental condition that combines a loss of contact with reality, as in schizophrenia, with a mood disorder such as depression or mania. Its exact cause is unknown; genes and brain chemistry may play a role.

There are no medical tests for it. A health care provider assesses the person's mental health, and a psychiatrist may confirm the diagnosis. Invisible Ships never diagnoses anyone and asks people to speak only for themselves.
