software
soft·ware, SAWFFT-wair, noun
: the instructions that control what a computer does; computer programs
Example:
“He's written a piece of software that does your taxes for you.”
In neuroscience and neuro-technology, software refers to the programs and algorithms that turn raw neural activity into usable information — filtering and de-noising signals, decoding brain data into commands, and increasingly using machine-learning models to label, interpret, or reconstruct patterns of thought. It is the counterpart to neuro-technology hardware: the hardware records from or stimulates the nervous system, while the software makes sense of what is recorded and directs what is sent.
