software-as-a-service (SaaS)
: A cloud-based software delivery model in which users access applications over the internet — typically through a web browser — instead of installing and managing them locally. The provider handles the underlying infrastructure, security, maintenance, and updates, and access is sold on a subscription basis. The “as-a-service” model has since been extended to other domains, including brain data — see brain-data-as-a-service.
